We have three Parkview Center for Wound Healing locations to expand and enhance wound care services: Parkview Hospital Randallia in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville, Indiana, and Parkview Huntington Hospital in Huntington, Indiana. These centers offer the very latest in clinical wound care – especially for chronic, non-healing wounds.

State-of-the-art treatments that stimulate the body’s natural healing process include:

• Hyperbaric oxygen therapy
• Compression therapy
• Bioengineered tissue substitutes
• Negative pressure wound therapy
• Growth factor therapies
• Advanced dressings and wraps
• Debridement

One of the exciting features offered by the center is HBO therapy. The 3,000-square-foot center is home to two transparent hyperbaric chambers. If your physician recommends that you receive HBO therapy, you’ll lie inside one of the chambers for a two-hour treatment.

During the treatment:

• You’ll breathe normally, taking in pure oxygen at greater-than-normal atmospheric pressure, saturating your blood with 15 to 20 times the normal amount of oxygen.
• The oxygen will saturate your tissues, helping to generate new cells and fight bacteria.
• You’ll relax while watching TV or movies or listening to music.
• You’ll be able to communicate at any time with an HBO technician who will be present to monitor your treatment.

HBO is not painful. But you may feel the increased pressure in your ears, much like the pressure change when flying in an airplane. The HBO staff will instruct you on simple methods for clearing your ears to relieve the pressure.

Who can benefit from HBO therapy and the other advanced treatment options available at the center? People who have chronic, non-healing wounds as a result of diabetes, cancer, heart conditions or certain types of injury.

Treatments are provided by Parkview physicians who’ve received specialty training accredited by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Society, as well as our trained clinical hyperbaric technicians and staff. These members of your care team will work along with the physician or other healthcare professional who refers you for treatment.

The wound care professionals at the center can also assist with physician-ordered compression therapy. This involves multi-layered compression wraps used to reduce and control swelling, or edema, in the legs and keep it from coming back.

If your physician refers you to the center for compression therapy, staff members can:

• Apply the wrap
• Instruct you in the proper care of the wrap
• Change the wrap if it loosens or gets wet
• Remove the wrap if you experience issues such as numbness, tingling, pain or temperature change in your toes
