Since 2009, Roy Wilson has been committed to dedicating and donating his time and care to the Parkview Health system, serving in many different roles and areas. Because of his tireless efforts, Parkview Foundations nominated Roy for the 2022 Outstanding Volunteer Award hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Roy, a retired Parkview leader, demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to Parkview as well as various other nonprofits in the community, like Erin’s House for Grieving Children. Since he started volunteering for the health system, he has dedicated over 2,405 hours of service and assisted in many different areas, including, most recently, the Outpatient Pharmacy and Senior Health Services/Seniors Club.

“Roy has been a part of our work family since our pharmacy opened at Parkview Regional Medical Center in 2012,” Shery Grosjean, manager, Pharmacy, Parkview Health, said. “His kindness is genuinely authentic and knows no boundaries. His dedication and personal commitment to our organization and patients are unmatched. We continue to count our blessings that he chose us.”

In a 2020 blog post, Roy, an avid cyclist, said that he finds the same gratification in volunteering his time and gifts to Parkview as he does from time on his bike.

Through various changes over the last few years, Roy has made a difference by exemplifying the mission of Parkview and impacting everyone around him in a positive way. His willingness to help others, especially during the COVID pandemic, made him an excellent candidate for the Outstanding Volunteer Award.

He stepped in when few volunteers were willing to come back to Parkview, rounding on our coworkers during the pandemic and leading the Jolly Cart initiative. Roy would stock this cart with not only snacks and drinks, but also with joy and much-needed optimism. He always made sure that the cart had what people needed. This initiative helped to boost coworker morale and all over positivity in a time when looking on the bright side was, understandably, challenging.

While he did not win the Outstanding Volunteer Award, we know that the people of Fort Wayne are forever grateful for the selfless dedication of Roy Wilson, and for all he has done to bring smiles to the faces of those facing their most difficult days.
